Mariposa Junction
5 Businesses, Reframed as 1 Destination
CLIENT | City of Pasadena
PLACE | Altadena, CA
PROJECT | Part 1 - Website + Sales + On & Offline Activation
After surviving the Eaton Fire, the 5 independent businesses at Mariposa Junction faced a longer-term challenge: rebuilding economically & socially while many residents remained displaced and foot traffic had changed.
Treating each storefront as a separate brand would not solve the larger question of how the block could stay visible, generate collective sales, and remain part of Altadena’s recovery.
The Approach
Through using our World Building framework, Die Free Studios developed the strategic direction for Mariposa Junction’s digital ecosystem and in-person community experience.
The strategy focused on reducing sales friction, guiding movement across the property, increasing cross-store discovery and spending, creating shared storytelling and activation opportunities, and centering the site’s history as Black legacy-family-owned real estate and a creative heart of Altadena.
The Mariposa Junction website was designed as the digital front door to the ecosystem of the entire block — not simply a directory of five businesses. The strategy connects the collective story, guides visitors between storefronts, block-wide events, and turns online discovery into foot traffic, cross-store spending, and community connection.
The Results
Part 1 of our World building engagement moved Mariposa Junction from five separate recovery efforts toward one connected destination strategy for the block’s economic, social, and cultural future.
One shared position and story now connects all five businesses.
The customer journey is designed to increase movement, discovery, and spending across the property.
Digital discovery, community programming, and physical visibility now supports the same collective goals.
Preserving the Black legacy-family ownership and role as a creative heart of Altadena are central to its community.
The businesses now have one operating direction for the next stage of recovery instead of five independent plans.
